Online Casino Advisory Panel Established

The United Kingdom’s Gambling Commission continues to prepare for the 2007 regulation of the online casino industry. In recent developments UK gambling minister Richard Caborn has announced the establishment of an advisory board, which will begin to work toward the introduction of online casino operators into the country. As well as investigating the issues commonly associated with online casino gambling, the panel will also address the location of several land-based casinos scheduled to enter the British market within the year.
The Casino Advisory Panel will be chaired by Professor Stephen Crow – a former chief planning inspector and chief executive of the Planning Inspectorate. A number of prominent business people with experience in the online casino industry have also joined the panel. The group’s duties will initially be to identify the issues involved with online casino groups relocating to the United Kingdom, along with planning for a proposed sixteen land-based casinos. Another priority of the panel is to research the social impact of both traditional casinos and online casino groups, with recommendations from social action groups to be taken into consideration.
The Gambling Act 2005 was approved by the UK government in an attempt to control and regulate the online casino industry. The UK Gambling Commission has been tasked with licensing and regulating all online casino operators in the UK by 2007.
