Majority Opposes Online Casinos Prohibition
16 Apr 2006
Pro-online casinos organization, the Poker Players Alliance, has drawn attention to a new survey conducted by leading market research firm ICR. In the survey, 75 percent of Americans state that they oppose moves by U.S. congress to outlaw gambling at online casinos. The Poker Player’s Alliance, which consists of over 20,000 American fans of online casinos, is using the survey’s findings to highlight their own opposition to U.S. legislators.
The results of the survey, which was conducted on March 29 this year, were obtained from 964 adults selected by ICR at random. The questions the survey posed to participants concerned the U.S. government’s attempts to legislate against multiple forms of poker, including poker at online casinos. Over 90 percent of respondents stated “no” when asked the question “should the federal government prevent Americans from playing poker?” 94.7 percent voted against the federal government being able to prevent Americans from playing poker in the privacy of their own homes. And 75 percent of respondents voted against the government being able to legislate against playing poker at online casinos. The survey’s results have been enthusiastically received by both operators and fans of online casinos.
Michael Bolcerek, president of the Poker Players Alliance, says that the poll results are a clear illustration of the public's feelings on the online casinos issue. “People don't want their member of Congress telling them what they can and cannot do in their own home,” Bolcerek stated. The results of the survey have been published on the organization’s website to further promote the group’s support for the online casinos industry.
